Caring for your Grade A cashmere is essentialto preserve its softness, its quality and its sustainability.
Here are a few tips to help extend its lifespan and preserve all its properties :
. Washing : hand wash your cashmere in cold water using a mild detergent, or use a gentle wool cycle (set to ‘Hand Wash’ on a cold cycle, without spinning, if you choose to machine wash). Avoid hot water, as this can cause the fibres to shrink.
. Drying : do not wring out the cashmere. Gently squeeze out the water and lay it flat on a clean terry towel to dry. Avoid hanging it up, as this may cause it to lose its shape. Never place it directly on a radiator or in direct sunlight. Leave it to dry flat in a well-ventilated, slightly warm room.
. Ironing : don’t skip this step – it’s crucial! Iron your cashmere garment using a gentle steam setting (don’t set your iron to a temperature that’s too high, as this could make the fabric go shiny). The cashmere fibres will plump up again, regaining their soft, fluffy texture.
. Storage : fold your cashmere garments rather than hanging them to prevent them from stretching. Store them in a cool, dry place, preferably in a cotton bag to protect them from dust. . Brushing : use a cashmere brush or a soft brush to remove fluff and pilling. This helps to keep the fabric smooth and soft to the touch. However, if you opt for Grade A cashmere, you will very rarely need to do this.
. Avoid chemicals : do not use harsh chemicals or have the item dry-cleaned frequently, as these can damage the fibres.
